The Business Impact Category of the PEI PNP allows you to become a permanent resident of Canada by investing in and actively managing a business in PEI.  If you are applying through the Business Impact Category of the PEI PNP and wish to use a paid representative, you must use an Island Agent approved by the Office of Immigration.

As an approved Island Agent for the PEI PNP, Abegweit Immigration is able to represent you in your application under the Business Impact Category.

The Business Impact Category presently contains only one stream, the Work Permit Stream.  The 100% Ownership Stream and Partial Ownership Stream were closed by the Province in September of 2018.

To be eligible for nomination through the Business Impact Category you must:

  • have a minimum verifiable personal net worth of $600,000 which has been accumulated through legal and legitimate sources in your own right;

  • have a minimum education of secondary school equivalent;

  • be within 21-59 years of age at the time of application;

  • have transferable management skills and past employment or business ownership experience;

  • meet minimum language requirements equivalent to a CLB/NCLC 4;

  • intend to live and work in PEI while providing day-to-day active and ongoing management of your PEI-based company;

  • meet the additional requirements which are specific to the stream under which you are applying.

Expression of Interest System

Prince Edward Island uses an Expression of Interest system in order to rank applicants to the PEI PNP.  Points are awarded in six categories, with the maximum score being 200 points.  Applicants must complete a profile in the Expression of Interest system, which will determine their score.  As an approved Island Agent, Abegweit Immigration is able to prepare and submit your Expression of Interest Profile directly into the Expression of Interest System on your behalf.

The six categories are assigned maximum points values as follows:

  • Age (maximum 20 points)

  • Language (maximum 40 points)

  • Education (maximum 20 points)

  • Business Ownership or Senior Management Experience (maximum 50 points)

  • Community Endorsement (maximum 35 points)

  • Adaptability (maximum 35 points)

The most qualified applicants with the highest scores will be invited by the Province to submit an application to the PEI PNP.

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (“PEI PNP”) is administered by the Office of Immigration in Prince Edward Island through an agreement with the Federal Government of Canada.  Immigration through the PEI PNP is a multiple stage process.  Applicants must first submit a profile to the Expression of Interest System and receive an invitation to apply from the Province.

Applicants who have the endorsement of a city or town in PEI are able to obtain additional points in their Expression of Interest profile.  Obtaining a community endorsement requires that you travel to PEI to meet with officials from that community in person.  It is up to the community, based on your proposed business and intentions, to decide whether or not they will issue an endorsement.  Currently, additional points are awarded for individuals who have the endorsement of one of the following communities:

Communities within the capital region (10 points):

  • City of Charlottetown

  • Stratford

Rural communities (35 points):

  • City of Summerside

  • Souris

  • Georgetown

  • Montague

  • Kensington

  • O'Leary

If you are interested in meeting with a community for the purpose of obtaining an endorsement, please contact us for more information.  We can provide you with information about specific communities in PEI and can arrange meetings with town officials in the community which interests you.  Videos with general information about some of the communities in PEI can be viewed in the "Living on PEI" section of our website.
